> 1972:
The Government’s early support of the Vietnam shipbuilding industry commenced with the establishment of Vietnam Shipbuilding Union in 1972 to consolidate the industry.
> 1996:
Vinashin was established in accordance with a decision promulgated by the Prime Minister to consolidate 20 shipbuilding-related companies, including 7 shipyards which were held under the Ministry of Transport.
> 2000:
Vinashin received its first international order.
> 2001:
The “Three Phase Master Plan” was launched to promote the domestic shipbuilding industry.
> 2002:
• 1st Vietship Exhibition.
• Delivery of first 11,500 DWT vessel - Vinashin Sun in Bach Dang Shipyard.
> 2004:
• 2nd Vietship Exhibition.
• Awarded a US$322.5 million contract from UK’s Graig Investment Ltd for the construction of 15 DNV-class 53,000 DWT bulk carriers.
> 2005:
Received US$750 million from the inaugural Vietnam sovereign bond issue.
> 2006:
• 3rd Vietship Exhibition.
• The proposal to establish the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Economic Group by restructuring Vinashin was approved by the Government.
• Launch of the first two 53,000 DWT vessels in the Ha Long Shipyard and Nam Trieu Shipyard.
• Signed contract to build car carriers capable of carrying 4,900 cars for Ray Car Carriers.
• Signed contract to build car carriers capable of carrying 6,900 cars for Hoegh Autoliner.
> 2007:
Delivery of the first 53,000 DWT vessel.
> 2008: 4th Vietship Exhibition.
> 2009:
• Launched the FSO-05, an offshore storage unit with a 150,000 DWT loading capacity, for PetroVietnam.
• Launched the first car carrier 4,900 units.
> 2010:
• 5th Vietship Exhibition (17th-19th, March).
• Delivery of Floating Storage & Offloading 150,000 DWT for PetroVietnam.
• Delivery of car carrier 4,900 units Victory Leader in Ha Long shipyard for Ray Car Carriers.

• Establishment of the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) based on restructure process of Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group.
